Arrrrrr!!! Axeman!!!!

Hello!
This is a quick concept character for an animation test I am doing. I need to practice my animation skills, so Im gonna animate this guy doing summit. Will update on that later.

I painted this in The Gimp - I have mentioned it before, but I am finally sold on its capabilities. I really like painting in this free program, it has a nice feel to it. I really recommend checking it out! It can be found here:

http://www.gimp.org/

It is an opensource program, and not the only only one available. Here is a quick list of other free software which I have used in the past and found to be worth checking out:

Artweaver - digital painting
Inkscape - Vector art
Scribus - Desk top publishing
Artrage - digital painting

I must say the only problem I have with The Gimp, is its name. It stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. But surely they could have chosen something else? haha!

Thanks to all who visit and leave feedback, much appreciated

Ken :D

Great barbarian, Ken. The animation should be good.
And thanks again for your comments. I've, ahem, not really been a reliable blogger of late but hope to pick up soon.

Sick viking brother. Sorry to not comment in a minute. Things have been so crazy. I'm loving all the newest stuff though. You really command that tablet.

Awesome piece ken!
thanks for stopping by mate, i'm still a bit in shock hearing that turner died so it is a shame really.

But anyway i like the loose brush feel on this one man, GIMP you said? i've tried artrage and it closely resembles alias sketchbook pro in my mind, i never heard of the other ones that you mentioned though, did you ever use open canvas before? its a neat little software that you and friends can paint on together.

Hey Ken, great stuff as usual! The gimp, you say..?

I do make the mirrors myself, but they were just one-offs. They got left over from a restaurant interior job. I love it when that happens! Anyway, it has encouraged me to look for old unwanted furniture to destroy further!

GIMP? Incredible Barbie :)

Do you enjoy the interface? That was only my main gripe with the application. Otherwise it is fairly strong with great potential.

I really love this one...its so neat. He looks almost like he's taking a deep wiff of his armpit. Basking in the smell and thinking "Damn, I smell good!"
